Sweatshop-free

For an average £75 pair of sports shoes, the workers who made it will have received around 35p.  Such poor wages for workers and massive profits for brands and retailers are very common for the clothing and textile sector, but it's not just low wages that make a sweatshop.  Ensuring good working conditions means dealing with 8 different aspects of factory life.

1. Freedom of Association and Right to Collective Bargaining (so that workers can form unions)
2. No Child Labour
3. No Forced Labour
4. No Discrimination
5. A Living Wage
6. Reasonable Working Hours and No Forced Overtime
7. Good Health and Safety Practices
8. Stable Employment Relations (ie work contracts)

All our suppliers seek to ensure that the factories they source from meet these eight criteria.  Different suppliers use different methods, so if you'd like to know more you can read about each supplier's specific standards and codes of practice on their websites
