| Dan Radice is planning to head back out to Cambodia this September with a small group of fairtrade adventurers, who will get the chance to learn firsthand how fairtrade and mission are coming together to bring total transformation to the lives of the poor. If you might be interested in coming along, there are two option for the trip. 1. Placement with a specific fairtrade/mission group. If you have a particular skill that you'd like to put to use with one of the fairtrade groups Cokoon is connected with in Cambodia then you could be placed with them for anywhere between 2 and 4 weeks, using your skills to develop the work they do. Skills in design, administration, or any other business skills would be most relevant to the fairtrade production side of things, but the different groups are involved in working with the poor and marginalized in many ways, so your placement wouldn't have to be connected directly to the fairtrade side of their work. 2. General Mission/Fairtrade experience. If there is no particular area you want to focus on, the option would be to come and get a taste of everything that's going on that brings together fairtrade and mission in Cambodia. You'd have the chance to meet with at least 3 or 4 of the different groups listed below and learn more about what they do, there would be opportunities to work alongside them in various ways, and you may discover that you'd like to spend your last week or so volunteering with one of the groups, which shouldn't be difficult to arrange. The 5 groups and their websites are: In His Steps - www.in-his-steps.org Daughters of Cambodia - www.daughterscambodia.org Khmer Life - www.khmerlife.org Hagar - www.hagarproject.org Goel Community - no website yet The Crazy Prayer Adventure Bit - 4-5 weeks If finances allow (and it's really not that expensive, as you'll see later) Dan is planning to travel overland back from Cambodia, through Vietnam, China, and Russia! This is the route he took when he left Cambodia for the first time in Dec 2004, and it was totally unforgettable. The whole area of South-East Asia, China, and Russia has remained on his heart as the area he feels God is calling Cokoon to be involved in, so it seems like the next step in that journey is to travel the length of this huge area of the Earth, praying in all the major places along the way, and seeing what chance meetings God arranges, and what possible future involvements develop! The Money Bit So, how much will all this cost? Well, my estimates are: 1. Cambodia Only (4-5 weeks) - £950 2. Cambodia + Prayer Adventure (9-10 weeks) - £1400 These estimates involve pretty generous allowance for food and accommodation. Since we'll be making use of couchsurfing and good ol' Christian hospitality for accommodation wherever possible, the total will probably be less, and any leftover money will be refunded to you at the end of the trip. And just so you can appreciate how cheap the overland journey back would be, a 3rd class ticket from Vladivostok to Moscow (a 7 day, 10000km trip) is just £74! Also, so that you know what Cokoon is getting out of this, these prices include a £150 payment to Cokoon for organizing the trip. Do let us know if this seems a bit steep, it is negotiable :o) Dates Because of Cokoon commitments with Summer Festivals, it won't be possible to leave until late August. The earliest leaving date would be around the 20th, which would mean the Cambodia part would end between the 17th and the 24th of September, and the Prayer Adventure would end between the 22nd and the 29th of October. So if you're up for the adventure of a lifetime, join the team and come to Cambodia with Cokoon this September! | |||||
